Our Unique Services

Your Care Team at Northern Prosthetics & Orthopedic

If you were born with a limb difference, or if you have experienced limb loss, our prosthetists are dedicated to understanding you, your strengths, and your aspirations.

For those born with conditions like cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, arthrogryposis, or those who have suffered a stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or any condition affecting arm, leg, or spinal mobility, our orthotists are committed to assisting you.

Evaluation
During your first appointment with a prosthetist or orthotist at Northern Prosthetics & Orthopedic, you'll discuss your lifestyle, career, hobbies, plans, and expectations. The clinician will assess your current strength, range of motion, overall health, and the condition of your limbs.

Please bring any devices you currently use and wear clothes that provide access to the affected limb. After a thorough evaluation and device recommendation, the clinician will liaise with your doctor and insurance for approval.

Measurement and Impression-taking
In this session, possibly combined with the evaluation, precise measurements of your residual and unaffected limbs are taken. The clinician uses plaster or fiberglass for impressions. Within weeks, your device will be crafted from a model based on this impression.

Fitting
The fitting process, which may require multiple visits, is tailored to ensure comfort and proper alignment of your custom device. Your prosthetist or orthotist will monitor its functionality and make adjustments as necessary. After the final fitting, the device undergoes final fabrication at Northern Prosthetics & Orthopedic.

Delivery
When your device is ready, you'll collect it from Northern Prosthetics & Orthopedic. You'll be instructed on its operation, care, and maintenance, and given an initial wearing schedule to help your body adapt. It's also advised to arrange therapy sessions promptly to maximize the use of your new device.

Ongoing Care
As you adapt to your prosthetic or orthotic device, return visits to Northern Prosthetics & Orthopedic for adjustments or repairs may be necessary. If the device malfunctions or fits poorly, cease use and contact us for an evaluation and potential repair.
